In late 2022 I was asked to come on the team with RaptorHouseFX here in Denver Colorado. Jesse Velez, the owner, was approached by Netflix to create a totally lifelike prop. We quickly set out to work, creating 3D models and rapidly prototyping in July to be ready to shoot by end of September.

During this time I was on team to assist around the shop, create molds with the guidance of Cali Jones, and to help prototype and ideate the internal mechanisms for Thing to come to life.
Ultimately four hands were made. Two, which were Alphas, would walk around and move their stumps to show attention and interact with the space around them. The other two, Betas, were made with the ability to be mounted to 1/4-20 threads, allowing for us to mount them wherever we may need for shooting. In collaboration with this work, Ben Eadie made two skateboards that were also remote controlled that the hands could ride or be mounted on.
One of the Betas, mounted on a subway station guard rail.
And an Alpha, seen walking up to a Wednesday stand in.
In an exciting update, Thing was featured in Make Magazine as a Cover image and a full article about our build process and the entire project as a whole, leading to some incredible opportunities for our growth and presence among makers and prop industry.
